Retirement reception will honor banker Avery

Staff writer

A come-and-go reception Monday will recognize Shreves Avery for 40 years of banking service to the Peabody community and surrounding area.

Bank customers and community members are invited to stop by the lobby during bank hours to share in refreshments and some reminiscing about “the old days.”

Avery started work at Peabody State Bank in May of 1976, as vice president and cashier. He was elected president of PSB in 1987 after his father’s retirement. In 2012, he was promoted to chairman of the Board of Directors and Chuck Good was promoted to bank president.

Avery has enjoyed being partially retired for several years, traveling with his wife and grandchildren, researching family history, and completing other projects.

Peabody State Bank was sold to Vintage Bank Kansas during the summer and will change hands by October 1. Avery will remain a member of the bank’s board of directors.
