Resident takes plea agreement

Peabody resident Jeannie Gervais was charged with animal cruelty in Peabody municipal court March 27 for a case that extended back to mid-February.

Gervais took a plea agreement for one count of animal cruelty for neglecting her palomino mare at 803 N. Prairie View Lane.

As part of the plea agreement, she will have to pay all court costs and restitution, as well as a reduced fine, but no jail time or date for repayment was given. The City of Peabody will retain care over the horse until full payment is made, at which point it will be returned to Gervais.

The original trial in municipal court was Feb. 13, but she received a continuance after claiming she didn’t realize it was the trial date.
