Replacement of S. Roosevelt St. under way

Staff writer

Work to replace two blocks of S. Roosevelt St. in Marion began Thursday.

City crews have the street blocked off and are breaking up the surface and hauling blocks of asphalt away.

After city crews replace the street’s rock base with a new one, concrete will be poured by Hett Construction.

“We’ll end up excavating it at least 10 inches,” city administrator Roger Holter said.

The street will be the same height as before. Work is expected to be completed by Aug. 1.

Work to replace a portion of Coble St. from Main St. to just south of Marion Manufacturing will begin later. Hett Construction also will do the pour for that one.

Roosevelt St. is estimated to cost about $80,000. Coble St. is estimated to cost about $70,000.

“We did the intersection on Coble when we did the water line replacement,” Holter said.
