René Starkey

A graveside service for Marion Assisted Living cook René Starkey, 58, who died Sunday at her home in rural Cedar Point, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Bazaar Cemetery, Bazaar, Kansas. Pastor Dave Thomas will officiate. Her casket will remain closed, and no visitation is planned.

She was born Dec. 9, 1961, in Strong City, to George Starkey and Harriette Louise (Goodrich) Starkey.

René loved working as a cook at Marion Assisted Living. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and never knew a stranger.

René is survived by children Cheryl Boaldin of Oregon, Melissa Penwell of Florence, and Adam Turner; grandchildren Tonya, Destiny, Gracie, Jon, Alex, and Taran; great-grandson Bradon; mother Harriette Foose of the home; siblings Tim Starkey of Albuquerque, Paul “P.R.” Starkey of Goessel, and Sharon Williams and Sue Markley, both of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Karen Starkey.
