Relay team qualifies for state
Marion’s combined team placed third out of 10 schools April 11 in a Newton invitational and 11th out of 18 schools Saturday in the Wichita North invitational.
The team’s A relay, consisting of all Hillsboro swimmers, qualified for state in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle.
Lauryn Vogt led the team Saturday, finishing third place in the 200 freestyle and a second in the 100 yard freestyle.
Alexis Hostetler dropped 15 seconds off her best time in the 500 freestyle April 11 and 10 seconds in the 100 freestyle Saturday.
Tanner Plett swam her season’s best April 11 in every event, dropping 2 seconds in both the 100 and 200 freestyle.
“I am really proud of the work that the girls have put into the season so far, and I think they are starting to see great results,” coach MacKenzie Magee said.
Olivia Carlson was the only diver April 11, giving her an automatic first. She then placed second out of 16 contestants Saturday in the 11-meter.
“We are looking forward to the home meet this Friday in Marion, which is also senior night for Ainsley Duell, Tanner Plett, and Katie Rempel,” Magee said. “We would love to see everyone there.”
