Rec head abruptly departs

Hillsboro officials won’t say why; golf superintendent also quits

Hillsboro city officials are mum on the reason recreation director Doug Sisk abruptly left that position June 14.

Sisk had been director since Oct. 10, 2006, city administrator Matt Stiles said.

“It’s a personnel issue,” Stiles said in declining to comment on the circumstances of Sisk’s departure.

Avery Unruh, the city’s golf club superintendent under Sisk, resigned to take a job with Wheatbelt Industries. His resignation will take effect next month.

Hillsboro recreation programs will be run by city and recreation commission staff until a new director is found.

Recreation programs will continue as scheduled, and recreation commission and city staff will work to finish summer programming, Stiles said.

Communication will be through the recreation commission webpage or a city of Hillsboro email account.

This summer’s slate of recreation programs includes baseball and softball for ages 10 and younger, 12 and younger, 15 and younger, and 16 and younger; disc golf camp for ages 7 to 18; summer craft camp for grades one to eight; summer drama camp for grades one to 12; summer tennis camp for preschool through 11; summer volleyball camp for grades three through eight; and swim team for youths ages 6 to 18.
