Rec Commission announces schedule

Anyone interested in playing basketball, watching the Wichita State Shockers play Indiana State, or claiming bragging rights as a champion pheasant hunter may be interested in activities planned in 2010.

Peabody-Burns Recreation Commission has mailed to district patrons a schedule of events and activities for the 2010 winter season. There is still time to sign up for many of the activities and events the rec commission has planned.

Trips to Wichita to see the world famous Lipizzaner stallions, the Harlem Globetrotters, and the Shockers are on the schedule. Advance registration is required for these trips.

The Brown gymnasium is the place to be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoons for men and women interested in playing pickup basketball games.

Anyone 65 or older can bowl free at 2 p.m. Jan. 21 at Senior Bowling at Peabody Lanes.

A contest to see whose pheasant sported the longest tail feather is in progress now with a deadline of Feb. 1 for turning in entries at USD 398 central office.

There is no charge to enter, and the prize is $25 in Peabody Bucks.

Many of the activities are free, some require admission costs or advance registration, and some carry age restrictions.

More information is available from recreation director Russ Busenitz at (620) 344-8380 or peabodyburnsrec@juno.com.

REC members are Greg Jones, Beth Peter, Barbara Anderson, Erik Barnes, and Sheri Lewis.
