Poster, video contests open to Kansas kids

Deadlines are approaching for poster and video contests in an annual Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day safety campaign.

All Kansas kids can enter and could win prizes and learn about traffic safety.

A poster contest is for kids 5 to 13. Three winners will receive a Kindle Fire tablet and case from the Kansas Turnpike Authority, a $50 gift card from Walmart, a $50 Amazon gift card from Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association of Kansas, and movie passes from AAA Kansas.

Eighteen regional winners in six regions and age groups — ages 5-7, 8-10 and 11-13 — will receive a bicycle from the Kansas Turnpike Authority and a helmet from Safe Kids Kansas.

Art must be on 8.5”x11” paper.

Any materials can be used including paint, crayon, pencil, pastel, and collage.

No computer-aided drawings.

Entries should be mailed to AAA Kansas/Public Affairs, 3545 SW 6th St., Topeka, KS, 66606, and must be postmarked by Sept. 21.

The video contest is open to Kansas teens in grades 8-12. Prizes include an iPad, a Go Pro and a DJI Osmo camera provided by Kansas Turnpike Authority. The grand prize winner’s school will receive $500.

Video must be six to 60 seconds long and promote fatality prevention using themes such as such as distracted driving, seatbelts and texting while driving.

Video entries must be posted through the KTA website by Sept. 30.
