Police seeking information regarding 'musical cars'

Has your vehicle gone missing recently? Have you left your house in the morning to find your car is half a block away? Peabody Police Chief Bruce Burke has heard about a rash of smaller cars and pickups that have been moved during the nighttime hours.

“We have had two or three owners come in, write, and sign an incident report,” he said. “But I hear of other individuals who have gotten up in the morning to find their car or truck is no longer where they left it the night before.

“We really would like to hear from those folks too so that we can compare the information and maybe come up with something helpful.”

Burke said the incidents started a couple of weeks ago. A car belonging to a downtown apartment dweller was set on the sidewalk. Another car and a pickup several blocks from the downtown area also were moved from the on-street parking spots where they had been left the night before.

Burke is urging people who have had suspicious activity around their vehicle to contact an officer at (620) 983-2111.
