Police receive
fowl complaints

Peabody Police Chief Bruce Burke said his office has had an increase in complaints about hens wandering off properties.

“The city has an ordinance that allows residents to keep hens for laying purposes,” Burke said. “But the birds must be confined to the owner’s property and not allowed to roam.

“This goes for ducks, chickens, guinea hens, peahens, or any other kind of fowl,” he said.

Burke said the ordinance allows residents to keep up to 12 hens, but no one may keep a rooster inside the city limits.
