ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

March 10 — Police met with school officials about a complaint that will require further investigation. A dog loose in the 300 block of S. Adams St. was taken to a veterinary clinic. What was reported to be a suspicious person at Casey’s General Store proved to be a passerby who did not want help. No problems were found in checking on an alarm at Casey’s. Police helped a driver with a battery problem.

March 11 — A semi-trailer truck struck low-hanging communications cables in the 100 block of S. Birch St. Police talked to a resident about a civil issue. Drivers were warned for speeding in the 500 blocks of S. Ash St. and E. D St.

March 12 — A dog bite treated at Hillsboro Community Hospital was found to have occurred outside the city limits. Police talked to a resident about a child-custody issue. A driver was ticketed for speeding in the 100 block of E. B St. Other drivers were warned for making a J-turn in the 100 block of E. Grand Ave., for speeding at Jade and 190th Rds., for playing loud music in the 300 block of W. D St., and for running a stop sign in the 100 block of N. Ash St.

Thursday — A driver was ticketed for having no proof of liability insurance and warned for texting while driving in the 300 block of W. Grand Ave. Drivers were warned for making a J-turn in the 100 block of S. Main St. and for having a headlight out in the 800 block of S. Ash St. Six warnings were issued for vehicles parked illegally citywide. A parking complaint in front of the city fire station was resolved. Police talked to a resident about a civil matter and helped a driver who ran out of fuel on US-56 at Kanza Rd.

Friday — Tara B. Carlton, 28, Wichita, was arrested on an Allen County warrant after police stopped her car for being a suspicious vehicle in the 300 block of N. Birch St. Another driver was warned for having a headline out on US-56 at Adams St. A possible intruder reported in the 500 block of S. Washington St. was not found. Police talked to a resident about civil and rental issues and helped the city’s fire department with an open fire in the 300 block of N. Birch St.

Saturday — Police investigated a false alarm that glass had been broken in the front door of Dollar General.

Sunday — Unspecified property was found at 3rd and Ash Sts. A suspicious person reported in the 700 block of S. Washington St. was not found.

MARION

March 10 — A previously reported broken window was reported again in the 100 block of Elm St. A driver was warned for speeding near Main and Cedar Sts.

March 11 — Police determined no crime had been committed after investigating a report of a possible theft in the 900 block of E. Main St. Police and firefighters investigated an anhydrous ammonia leak at Cooperative Grain and Supply. A driver was warned for speeding near US-56 and Timber Rd.

March 12 — Animal complaints in the 500 block of W. Santa Fe St. and about three dogs the 300 block of Locust St. were investigated. On Locust St., neighbors thought the dogs had been abandoned when the renter moved out of the house, but the owner was checking on the dogs. Property was returned to a resident of the 200 block of Garfield St.

Thursday — Police went to the 600 block of S. Freeborn St. to check on a child who ran away from school. Drivers were warned for having defective tag lights near Main and 5th Sts. and near Main St. and Eastmoor Dr. and for having a defective taillight near Main and Elm Sts. No problems were found in checking on a resident of the 1500 block of E. Main St.

Friday — The owner of a vehicle stolen in Moundridge phoned the sheriff’s office to see if it had been driven there by the person they suspected had stolen it. A person burning brush in the 600 block of S. Cedar St. was warned about burning in high wind. No citations were issued but the officer told the property owner to put out the fire. Police also investigated vandalism in the 200 block of E. Santa Fe St., an animal complaint in the 300 block of Locust St. at the same address where an animal complaint had been investigated Thursday, and a trespassing complaint in the 1500 block of E. Main St.

Saturday — A vehicle stolen from Moundridge was recovered in Marion. Dogs in the 300 block of Locust St., complained about March 12 and again Friday were checked on and the owner surrendered them to a veterinary clinic. Police checked on a resident of the 100 block of N. Coble St. A driver was warned for speeding near US-56 and Cedar St. No problems were found in checking on a disconnected 911 call from the 1500 block of Lawrence St.

Sunday — A dog loose in the 300 block of Locust St., at the same address where dog complaints had earlier been reported, was taken to a veterinary clinic. That dog did not belong to the renter who had surrendered her dogs Saturday. Another dog loose in the 100 block of Billings St. was returned to its owner. A dog loose in the 100 block of Elm St. was not captured. Two drivers were warned for speeding near US-56 and Cedar St.
