ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
Jan. 20 — Police provided active shooter training to the Hillsboro school district. A person who wanted to report a crime in Lindsborg was referred to Lindsborg police.
Jan. 21 — A dead deer was removed from Indigo Rd. at 110th Rd. A driver was warned for speeding in the 600 block of S. Ash St.
Jan. 22 — Follow-up investigation in Walton of a hit-and-run accident in Hillsboro led to police recommending charges of interference with law enforcement, providing false information, and various driving violations. An hour and a half of investigation failed to find evidence of a report that someone was rattling doorknobs at Country Haven Inn; the guest who complained went to a different motel. Police also investigated a car-deer accident on Indigo Rd. for the sheriff’s department, backed up Marion police at a domestic disturbance, talked to a resident about a civil issue, helped Kansas Department of Children and Families with an investigation, and provided help to a driver on US-56 at Ash St. and for a car that broke down on Cedar St. between 2nd and 3rd Sts. A vehicle reportedly traveling in excess of 100 mph on US-56 was not located.
Thursday — No problems were found in checking on a resident of the 100 block of N. Washington St. Police checked city streetlights.
Friday — Routine activities.
Saturday — A driver stopped in the 400 block of E. 1st St. for using a cell phone while driving was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol after allegedly failing field sobriety tests. A vehicle was reported vandalized at Hillsboro High School. A driver was ticketed for driving an unregistered vehicle in the 100 block of N. Ash St. Another driver was warned for not using headlights in the 800 block of S. Ash St. A person was reported walking in an alley at 3 a.m., but the caller did not provide a location.
Sunday — Police helped sheriff’s deputies investigate a report of a driver slumped over in a vehicle on Indigo Rd. north of US-56; the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and transporting an open container of alcohol.
MARION
Jan. 20 — An out-of-control patient at St. Luke Hospital calmed down before police arrived. Police determined no crime was committed at a disturbance in the 300 block of N. 3rd St. No problems were found in checking on a driver near 190th and Remington Rd. and on a resident of the 300 block of Locust St. A possibly intoxicated person in the 100 block of N. Thorp St. was not found, but a check with sheriff’s deputies at the county lake found that a resident was intoxicated but otherwise OK. Police helped a person who fell in the 500 block of N. Cedar St.
Jan. 21 — No report.
Jan. 22 — Police determined no crime was committed at a disturbance in the 500 block of N. Freeborn St. A driver was warned for speeding near US-56 and Cedar St.
Thursday — A truck reportedly drove through a yard in the 800 block of S. Roosevelt St. A possible assault case referred by Newton police was investigated. Ideatek fiber optic cable installers were advised to be courteous and aware of their surroundings. No problems were found in checking on the welfare of a resident of the 100 block of Eisenhower Dr. Drivers were warned for speeding on US-56 near Cedar St. and near Timber Rd.
Friday — Police helped sheriff’s deputies with an unspecified issue of courthouse security.
Saturday — A delayed report of an assault in the 200 block of Forest St. will be forwarded to the county attorney for possible charges. Police helped a driver stuck motorist in the 700 block of Nickerson St. A dog loose in the 200 block of E. Santa Fe St. was not caught. A driver was ticketed for speeding and having no liability insurance near Main and 1st Sts.
Sunday — A driver was ticketed for having an illegal license plate and no liability insurance in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St.
