ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

March 18 — A driver was ticketed for speeding in the 500 block of S. Ash St. Five vehicles parked along city streets were tagged as disabled and having expired registrations. A dog was reported loose in the 100 block of E. D St.

March 19 — A hay bale fell on US-56 near Sonic Drive-In. A resident reported damage to a vehicle. Warnings for speeding were issued in the 1000 block of E. D St. and for equipment violations in the 600 blocks of S. Ash St. and Orchard Dr. Parking complaints were lodged in the 400 block of S. Main St. and at B and Adams Sts. Police helped residents with a civil issue in the 400 block of N. Ash St. and with vehicle issues in Memorial Park.

March 20 — Drivers were warned for speeding in the 600 block of S. Ash St. and for not using headlights when required at Ash and B Sts.

Thursday — Police directed traffic while a city crew worked on sewer issues at Ash and D Sts.

Friday — A stray dog was reported in the 200 block of S. Cedar St. and J-turns were reported on Main St. Police received two steps of tire-deflating strips and a preliminary breath test machine for participating in a state traffic safety program.

Saturday — A driver was ticketed for having expired registration in the 400 block of N. Ash St. Several other vehicles were tagged for being abandoned with expired registrations. A driver was warned about an equipment violation in the 100 block of W. 2nd St. Found property was returned to its owner. Police helped with a civil issue.

Sunday — Robert E. Billsten, 56, Hillsboro, was arrested and jailed on a Harvey County warrant for contempt of court.

MARION

March 18 — A theft was reported in the 1100 block of E. Main St.; an offense report has not yet been released. No problems were noted in checking on a resident of the 200 block of N. Cedar St.

March 20 — A parking complaint was made in the 900 block of E. Main St. Two drivers were warned for speeding near US-56 and Industrial St., another was warned for speeding near Main and 4th Sts., and a fourth was warned for defective equipment at an unreported location.

Thursday — After an extensive search, a missing elderly man was located at Historic Elgin Hotel. Trespassing was reported at a Victory Ln. duplex. A driver was warned for speeding near US-56 and Industrial St. Police talked to a resident about bicycles stopping for school buses.

Friday — A person screaming in the 300 block of S. Roosevelt St. was taken by ambulance to St. Luke Hospital for treatment of a medical condition. Police helped sheriff’s deputies with an injury accident, for which no accident report has yet been released, near Cedar and Denver Sts. and school staff at East Park with a child who ran away from Marion Elementary School.

Saturday — A fatal gunshot wound at a home in the 200 block of S. Freeborn St. was determined to be accidentally self-inflicted.
