Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
Oct. 30 — A vehicle reportedly was blocking a driveway in the 200 block of E. Grand Ave. Police discussed a civil property issue with a resident. Drivers were warned for having a defective taillight on 190th Rd. west of town and for having a defective taillight and failing to signal a turn on US-56. A citation was issued for a driver who ran a stop sign in the 400 block of N. Ash St.
Oct. 31 — Recovered property was returned to a resident.
Nov. 1 — A driver in the 100 block of N. Adams St. was warned about texting while driving. A license tag was reported missing. Debris was removed from the roadway in the 500 block of S. Ash St.
Thursday — Police talked to a resident about practicing archery within the city limits and waited with a disabled vehicle at US-56 and Jade Rd. until a tow truck arrived. No problems were found in checking on the welfare of a resident of the 200 block of N. Washington St.
Friday — The owner of a dog running free downtown was notified. No problems were found after checking on a report of people yelling in the 300 block of N. Birch St. Citations were issued in the 100 block of W. 1st St. for having no insurance, the 500 block of S. Ash St. for speeding and having an expired tag, and the 400 block of S. Lincoln St. for allowing an unlicensed driver. Warnings were issued in the 700 block of S. Ash St., 100 block of E. D St., and 400 block of S. Adams St. for lighting violations; in the 300 and 700 blocks of S. Ash St. for defective headlights or taillights; in the 400 block of E. D St. for failing to dim to low-beam headlights; in the 100 block of S. Ash St. for improper display of a license plate; and at US-56 and Adams St. for illegal window tint.
Saturday — Citations were issued in the 300 block of S. Ash St. for failing to use a required anti-drinking ignition interlock, in the 600 block of N. Ash St. for driving with an expired license, and in the 400 of W. Grand Ave. for transporting an open container of alcohol. Warnings were issued for turn signal violations in the 300 blocks of N. Ash St. and E. B St. and the 600 block of Ash St., for not having a valid driver’s license in the 200 block of S. Ash St., for having a defective windshield at US-56 and K-15/Holly Rd., for a lighting violation in the 600 block of N. Ash St., and for speeding and not signaling a turn in the 500 block of S. Main St.
Sunday — A 50-year-old Hillsboro man was arrested in the 800 block of S. Ash St after a struggle ensued during a traffic stop in which marijuana was detected. A report of domestic battery in the 400 block of S. Birch St. remains under investigation. Police met with a resident about a civil property matter. Debris was removed from a roadway.
Oct. 30 — A juvenile who walked away from school was picked up in the 200 block of S. Coble St. and turned over to a parent. A driver at 1st and Main Sts. was warned for speeding. Police determined no crime had been committed during a quarrel in the 600 block of S. Roosevelt St.
Oct. 31 — A person suspected of stealing from St. Luke Auxiliary Shoppe was ordered not to return after the complaining witness opted not to seek charges. A non-injury accident near Walnut and Santa Fe Sts. was investigated. A driver near 3rd and Main Sts. was warned about disobeying a stop sign.
Nov. 1 — An unidentified trespasser at Dollar General left before police arrived.
Friday — A license plate was reported lost at Marion Die and Fixture. A non-injury accident near Industrial Rd. and US-56 was investigated. A driver at Main and Locust Sts. was warned about a defective taillight. Police investigated an animal complaint in the 300 block of S. Roosevelt St. and discussed a possible violation of an order for protection from abuse.
Saturday — Police were unable to locate an underage drinking party that had been reported in the 400 block of N. Cedar St. A driver at Main and 2nd Sts. was warned about a defective taillight. Jailers received assistance with an uncooperative inmate. A guest accidentally was locked out at Historic Elgin Hotel.
Sunday — Jail staff again received help with an inmate. An open door in the 300 block of E. Main St. was secured after police were unable to locate the building owner.
