ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

Sept. 19 — A dog picked up by a resident was taken to a veterinary clinic and later claimed by its owner. Police checked on the welfare of residents in the 400 blocks of W. B and S. Main Sts. They also helped a motorist in the 200 block of S. Adams St.

Sept. 20 — Police met with a mother about her children not getting along and stood by during a child custody exchange in the 400 block of S. Main St. A driver in the 100 block of S. Adams St. was warned about an equipment violation. No problems were found with a suspicious vehicle parked in the 700 block of S. Wilson St.

Sept. 21 — A couple’s quarrel in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St. was investigated but did not lead to police action. Police checked on the welfare of a person in the Hillsboro Community Hospital parking lot.

Thursday — A dog running free at Hillsboro sports complex was taken to a veterinary clinic. A fire alarm at Tabor College was blamed on burned pancakes. No problems were found upon checking a motion alarm that sounded at Hillsboro Industries.

Friday — Investigation of tampering with a residential electric meter in the 400 block of W. Grand Ave. is continuing. Police met with staff at Great Plains Federal Credit Union regarding a fraud case that continues to be investigated. Damage caused by BB guns to windows in the 100 block of N. Birch St. was investigated. Pry marks were found on a door jamb of a residence in the 400 block of N. Ash St. No problem was found after checking on a disconnected 911 call from Salem Home, where police also helped staff deal with a resident needing a mental health evaluation. Police helped a motorist who ran out of gas at US-56 and Kanza Rd. and stood by during a child custody exchange at Casey’s General Store.

Saturday — A dog reportedly running free in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St. was not found.

Sunday — A large quantity of methamphetamine was seized during a traffic stop in the 600 block of S. Ash St.

MARION

Seven traffic stops were reported during the week.

Sept. 19 — A dog was quarantined for 10 days after it reportedly bit a youth in the 200 block of Locust St. A driver who failed to pay for fuel was located, returned, and paid. A suspected shoplifter was told not to return to Carlsons’ Grocery. An unwanted visitor was told not to return to a property on Grant St. A backpack was reported missing or stolen.

Sept. 20 — Theft of lottery tickets from Ampride continues to be investigated. Dollar General employees alerted police to a potential scam; police met with the intended victim and explained how the scam works.

Sept. 21 — Illegal dumping at the city’s burn pile was investigated.

Thursday — A dog running free on N. 2nd St. was taken to a veterinary clinic.

Friday — A person accused of striking someone multiple times in the face during a front-yard altercation at a rental house in the 300 block of N. Roosevelt St. was arrested on suspicion of battery and marijuana possession charges. A person was told never to return to a residence in the 200 block of N. Roosevelt St. Police investigated a report of a suicidal person.

Saturday — Police helped ambulance attendants perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation at Hilltop Manor apartments. A scam involving gift cards was reported.
