Poker tournament funds scholarship

Friends and family of the late Bob Phillips gathered Saturday evening at Peabody American Legion to participate in the seventh annual Texas Hold ‘Em Poker tournament to raise money for a scholarship in his name.

Organizers said 34 people played in the tournament.

Larry Watts of Peabody won the coveted pink T-shirt award given to the first player out of the tournament.

Dan Towne of Hillsboro won the four-of-a-kind high hand of the night with four kings.

First place in the tournament went to Keith Hess of Marion, second place went to Katherine Defilippis of Hillsboro, third place to Robert “Hupe” Turner of Peabody, and fourth place to Tim Ross of Marion.

Cash prizes of $665 were paid to tournament winners and $700 was donated to the Phillips Memorial Scholarship fund at Peabody-Burns High School.
