Phyllis Landis

Rosary for Phyllis Hein Landis, 79, who died Nov. 30 at her home in rural Marion after a battle with cancer, will be 11 a.m. Dec. 18 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Marion.

A graveside service at Marion Cemetery will follow. Friends and family will gather at Holy Family church hall after the service for a light luncheon and time of remembering.

She and her twin brother were born Sept. 23, 1942, to William and Catherine Hein on their grandparents’ farm east of Marion.

In 1961, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where she met and married Edward Baliel. They had two sons, David and Mark. She married Claude Landis on Aug. 19, 1979.

He survives along with brothers Richard and Walter Hein of Marion; sisters Laura Wayman of Hutchinson, Catherine Camien of Emporia, and Linda Brewer of Marion; sons David Baliel of Marion and Mark Baliel of Newton; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Brothers Vernon Hein and Charles Hein preceded her in death.
