Philpott to play in all-star game

Peabody-Burns High School graduate Clayton Philpott has been selected to play on the east squad at the Kansas eight-man all-star football game at 10 a.m. Saturday in Beloit.

Philpott’s could not pin down one emotion to describe being picked.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to go out and represent Peabody-Burns one last time,” Philpott said, “but I’m really nervous because I do not know what I’m walking into.

“A lot of coaches from other schools said I needed to be on the roster and needed to play, so the commission said I could come. They said they can’t believe they missed this kid so they put me on the roster right then and there.”

While in high school, Philpott lettered in basketball and went to regionals twice in track.

He graduated this spring, and will be going to Great Bend to study to be an EMT, and eventually become a firefighter.

This will be his last time putting on a football uniform.

“It’s sad because football is a huge part of my life growing up and it’s just sad to let it go,” he said, “but there comes a point where you have to give something up and go get your career started.”
