Peabody Senior Center launched its annual peppernut baking project on Monday when the first mounds of the Christmas cookie were mixed, baked, and bagged.
The group will hold peppernut baking sessions after lunch every Monday and Thursday afternoon until Nov. 17.
“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we always appreciate the people who come to help,” site co-manager Ruth Lott said.
The seniors make 40 to 45 pounds of peppernuts a day. By the time the final day rolls around, they will have produced about 500 pounds.
Arlene Unruh has announced her resignation after 15 years as site co-manager. She will continue to attend the center and take part in meals and activities.
Call (620) 983-2226 the night before a meal to make a reservation. For more information on volunteering, call the same number and speak to Lott.
