Peabody students perform at Flint Hills symphony

Nearly two dozen Peabody students participated in Saturday evening’s 12th annual performance by the Kansas City Symphony at a prairie venue in the Flint Hills, this year in a pasture southwest of Cottonwood Falls.

The theme was “The Future of the Flint Hills.” County 4-H agents in surrounding counties were asked to find area students who would hike up the hill behind the orchestra during the final song.

Peabody students made up the largest group.

Seven counties were represented: Butler, Chase, Greenwood, Lyon, Marion, Riley and Wabunsee.

In total, 85 young people in white shirts and blue jeans formed a chain across the ridge behind the musicians during singing of “Home on the Range.”

Those participating from Peabody were Shannan and T.J. Clover, Rachelle Cooper, Amber Cubbage, Morgan Gaines, Jefferson Glover, Mallory Harris, Caitrin and Rozy Kealy, Makayla Klingenberg, Anna Lubbers, Cody and Celide Navrat, Christopher, Lukas, and Sarah Spencer, Zach Stephey, and Alex and Philip Young.
