Peabody Senior Center members hosted a benefit biscuit and gravy breakfast Saturday morning to help defray the expense of some costly plumbing repairs.

“We had a good turnout,” said site manager Ruth Lott. “We thank everyone who supported us. It was a successful event and we raised enough to cover about half of the cost of the plumbing repairs.”

Lott said the center will try a new activity on June 6 immediately following lunch. “This is something people at one of the other Marion County centers really enjoy,” she said. “It is called A Poem in Your Pocket. Members who want to participate bring a favorite poem and share it with the group. It can be an original poem or an old favorite; it can be funny or serious. I know we have creative people in our group and it will be fun to see what they can share.”

June birthdays will be celebrated on June 12 with the usual oven fried chicken and trimmings that cook Kim Nellans fixes for the birthday dinners each month. Jack Hobbs will entertain the group after the meal with a trip down memory lane as he tells about Oliver antique tractors. He will bring photographs and share his knowledge of the old collectible tractors. Reservations are required by the evening before the meal. Call 983-2226 and leave a message if no one answers the phone.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the informative programs and the entertainment available each month at Peabody Senior Center. Meals are balanced, nutritious, and delicious. All that is needed is a reservation so that enough food can be prepared for those who plan to attend. The cost for those 60 and older is $3.15 and for those younger than 60, it is $5.00. Carry-out meals also are available at 10:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.

“It is a good time of the year to stay out of the hot kitchen,” said Lott. “We have lots of fun and fellowship and we look forward to seeing more seniors take advantage of the center.”
