Peabody Senior Center site manager
Peabody Senior Center will host bingo immediately following lunch Thursday. Although it is not required, Christmas treats or candy bars may be brought for the prize basket.
Dec. 14 will be a very busy day at the center. Members will have lunch at 11:45 a.m. as usual and at 5 p.m., there will be a special chili and cinnamon roll supper. This meal will be by reservation. Call the center at (620) 983-2226 the day or evening before and leave a message if necessary.
After everyone has eaten, seniors will get on buses for the annual Christmas light tour around town. Accompanying the group from the center will be residents and employees of Peabody Care Center and Westview Manor.
Following the tour, everyone will return to the center for holiday cookies, crackers, hot chocolate, and coffee. There also will be a drawing for a quilted wall hanging on display now at the center. Proceeds from ticket sales for the drawing will go toward senior center expenses.
On Dec. 20, the center will host its monthly covered dish dinner and business meeting. The center’s board of directors will provide turkey, dressing, potatoes, and gravy for the meal. Others are asked to bring a side dish or dessert.
Dec. 22 is the date of the Christmas Holiday Brunch at 9:30 a.m. The brunch will include breakfast casserole, cinnamon rolls or blueberry coffee cake, fruit, and coffee.
The center will be closed from Dec. 23 to Dec. 26, opening as usual on Dec. 27. Freezer meals will be available for the holiday, but reservations need to be made by Dec. 16 so they can be delivered before center closes for the holiday.
As always, we can use volunteers in a number of ways. If you are thinking of making a New Year’s resolution to volunteer in 2012, the senior center could use your help. Call us at (620) 983-2226 to volunteer.
