Peabody Main Street revitalization wins national recognition

Peabody Main Street Assocation received accreditation last week from the National Main Street Program for meeting standards for commercial district revitalization set by the National Trust Main Street Center.

The Peabody group’s performance is evaluated annually by the Kansas Main Street Program, which partners with the National Trust Main Street Center to identify programs that meet 10 performance standards.

“This has been a goal of our program for many years now,” Peabody association Executive Director Shane Marler said. “We are very excited to be one of a select few programs in the nation to be recognized with this accreditation.”

The honor recognizes work Peabody has put into revitalizing Main Street over 21 years, he said.

“It shows this community has set a new benchmark for success,” Marler said.
