Peabody cleanup next week

The City of Peabody and local refuse disposal company Waste Connections will sponsor fall cleanup week from Monday to Oct. 29.

Roll-off Dumpsters will be in place at the intersection of First and Olive streets from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and Oct. 26, and from 8 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 29.

Residents may dispose of hazardous waste from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 29 at the intersection of First and Vine streets.

“Curbside pickup will be on Friday,” Deputy City Clerk Stephanie Ax said. “We hope everyone will remember to use the three B’s when placing items at the curb — bag, box, or bundle.

“The cleanup crews won’t pick up items that are thrown haphazardly at the edge of the yard or heaped in a pile. Everything needs to be boxed, bagged, or tied in bundles to make it easier on the workers.”

Appliances will be picked up at no extra charge, with the exception of anything that uses refrigerant.

“Residents need to make their own arrangements to have freezers, refrigerators, and air conditioners removed,” Ax said. “They are not eligible for pickup by Waste Connections.”

Tires will be picked up for a charge of $3 each. The resident must contact Waste Connections in advance at (800) 230-0383 and leave a message that includes the resident’s name and address so the driver and pickup crew will know where to go. That information will be passed on to Ax and billing for the tires will appear on next month’s water bill.

For more information, contact Ax at the city office, (620) 983-2174.
