Peabody-Burns volleyball team runs hot, cold

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns volleyball showed major improvement Saturday at the Solomon volleyball tournament.

The Warriors demonstrated better communication and were more confident in their abilities, coach Rachel Winter said.

They started the day with a major loss to Solomon 13-25, 7-25. It was the team’s worst loss of the day and the only match they lost in straight sets.

Peabody-Burns returned to the court to dominate in their own right, beating F. L. Schlagle 25-19, 25-18.

The team battled back to win sets on multiple occasions, showing their grit and determination.

The Warriors’ attack was led by seniors Tori Pickens and Breanna Lett. Tori totaled 34 kills and Breanna contributed 54 assists.

The team followed up their win with another strong performance, defeating Wakefield in three sets. After dropping the first set 20-25, Peabody-Burns came back to win the next two, 25-19, 25-19.

Despite the effort, the Warriors could not overcome their final two opponents.

Facing Tescott, they dominated the first set 25-11, only to lose momentum and the match. They had a good showing in the second set, but could not hold on, before dropping the final set 15-25.

The final match of the day featured a good first and third set against Elyria Christian, but it was the second set that did them in, 13-25.

The Warriors won a hard-fought first set in extra points, and lost the third in competitive fashion.
