Peabody-Burns doesn’t boast large numbers, but its track and field team has talent spread across different events.

“I feel that we will have a couple of solid competitors in the distance and sprint races, as well as all throwing and jumping events,” first-year head coach Kody Tegtmeier said. “We have a plethora of new coaches willing to find any way necessary to help our athletes grow and improve.”

The girls return sophomore state qualifier Sarah Spencer in the two-mile run. Spencer shined as a freshman, and Tegtmeier thinks she can improve on personal records she set a season ago.

The girls also return throwers Aubrey Craig and Clarissa Stokes.

The boys welcome back Caleb VanCurren, Thomas Page, and Taven Scott on the track while Tanner Wedd was a varsity thrower last season. Tristian Wedd, who is a sprinter and thrower, is injured.

In total, the Warriors have 16 high school students and 13 junior high students out for track and field. The Warriors have a solid group of underclassmen expected to compete at the varsity level.

“I look for our juniors to set the tone on improving each practice and each week,” Tegtmeier said. “The underclassmen are talented individuals looking to help out our team in any way.”

Peabody-Burns will open its season at home Tuesday.
