Peabody-Burns football loses tough test at Goessel

It was a tough night for Warrior football Friday at Goessel, as Peabody-Burns lost 56-8 to the Bluebirds.

Peabody-Burns had to punt after four downs as Goessel exploded to score 28 points in the first half.

The Warriors came close to scoring with 55 seconds left in the first half by passing into the end zone. The ball squirted loose before possession was established, though, and Peabody-Burns turned it over on downs.

With 10 minutes left in the game, Thomas Page returned a kickoff 50 yards to the Bluebird eight yard line. Rocco Weerts carried the ball in from three yards for a touchdown and the extra points.

By that time, the score was 42-8. Goessel would score two more times to end the game 56-8.

The Warriors collected 117 yards on offense, with Danny Hamman gaining 52 yards, Jack Parks 33 yards, and Weerts 25 yards on the ground.

Andrew Hauck led the Warriors with five solo tackles.

Peabody-Burns will take on Solomon Friday, both teams are 1-3 in district games. The winner will capture fourth place in the district and advance in the 8-man football playoff bracket.
