Peabody-Burns drop two in a row

Two games this past week ended in defeat for the Lady Warriors. The team lost a home matchup with Rural Vista, 45-25 on Jan. 14. Friday at Wakefield, Peabody-Burns lost 43-34. The girls play this week in a tournament at Centre.

Rural Vista

Both offenses were slow in the first quarter. Rural Vista had a one-point edge, 7-6 at the end of the quarter. Katy Benson scored four in the period. Brianna Larsen had two.

Christa Elliott paced the offense in the second with three 3-pointers. Benson and Rylie McDowell each added a two point basket. The Lady Warriors held Rural Vista to 11. Peabody-Burns led 19-18 at halftime.

Rural Vista took control in third quarter, scoring 19 points. With only a free throw from Jordan Gibson, Peabody-Burns trailed 37-20.

Peabody-Burns scored five points in the fourth. Rural Vista scored eight. The Lady Warriors lost 45-25. McDowell made a three in the final period. Katie Charles and Benson each added a free throw.

Wakefield

Wakefield led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter. Gibson scored three for Peabody-Burns and Elliott added a 2-point basket.

Peabody-Burns held Wakefield to five in the second quarter. The Lady Warriors outscored Wakefield 6-5, but still were behind 15-11 at halftime. McDowell, Elliott and Larsen each scored two points.

Both offenses sparked in the third. The Lady Warriors gained 16 while Wakefield added 14. Elliott paced the team with 10 points, including two treys. Benson added four and Gibson contributed two. With the scoring surge, Peabody-Burns was only down 29-27 at the end of three.

Free throws were the story in the fourth. Wakefield earned 12 of 14 points from the line. The Lady Warriors scored seven points, three from the stripe. Peabody-Burns lost 43-34.
