PBHS wins 2 at Centre

With the 2010-11 season nearing an end, the PBHS volleyball squad added two more wins at Centre Tuesday. They defeated Elyria Christian, 25-18 and 25-23, and also defeated Centre, 25-19 and 25-23. The Lady Warriors ended the regular season schedule at home Monday and will compete in the Wheat State League meet on Saturday at Centre.

Elyria Christian

Paige Lewis put the Lady Warriors on the scoreboard with an ace. Tori Schroeder had a block for a point and Michaela Methvin had a kill.

A tip-set by Rayna Barnes and an ace by Hodges put the Lady Warriors up two, 6-4. PBHS continued to have success on offense with a block and an ace from Methvin and kills from Embry Hodges and Lewis. A duet block by Hodges and Sarah Hofkamp gave the squad a comfortable lead, 15-8.

Late in the match, a Brandee Burnett serve for an ace gave the team the 23-16 edge. Hodges had a kill for point 24 and Hofkamp had a tip-set to end game one, 25-18.

Both teams traded points early in the second game. Methvin and Lewis came up with kills and Methvin an ace to give the PBHS squad the 6-2 advantage. Elyria came back to tie the game, 6-6.

A Methvin kill broke the tie for the 7-6 edge. PBHS built a lead with kills from Barnes, Lewis, and Methvin, and Hofkamp and Lewis each added aces. Elyria came back again from a 4-point deficit to take the lead but a Mackenzie Ensminger ace tied the game at 22 all.

Barnes earned point 23 and Lewis gave the team the 2-point edge 24-22. PBHS took the game-two win, 25-23.

Methvin led the team with 10 kills in the match. Lewis had six kills, Barnes had three and Hodges added two. Hofkamp had seven digs in the contest. Hodges, Methvin, and Lewis each had six. Schroeder had five and Burnett added four. Aces were scored by Ensminger, Burnett, Hodges, Lewis, and Hofkamp. Hofkamp had 15 assists in the match and Schroeder had four.

Centre

Barnes took control of the earned points for the PBHS squad with a kill to make the teams even at 4 all. Methvin had a kill next for a 5-4 score. With kills from Lewis and Methvin and aces from Lewis and Burnett the team had a 13-7 edge.

A team block by Hodges and Schroeder gave the team a 16-10 advantage. PBHS continued to control the game with kills by Hodges, Barnes, and Lewis and aces form Ensminger and Methvin. Hodges ended game one with a kill. PBHS took game one, 25-19.

Centre took a 2-0 lead before Hodges put the Lady Warriors on the board with a kill. Methvin added a kill and a tip but Centre maintained the lead, 5-3. A Burnett ace gave the Lady Warriors the 7-7 tie but Centre again took the lead. Hodges and Lewis each had a kill to make the teams even at 10

PBHS took the lead, 12-11, with a kill from Hodges but Centre again took the advantage. Two Methvin hits and a Hofkamp hit made the score all even at 17. Again Centre came back to take the lead. PBHS then had a kill from Methvin, a block from Barnes, a hit and an ace from Hodges, a Hofkamp tip and another kill from Hodges. PBHS tied the score at 23. A centre error gave the Lady Warrior point 24 and Hodges ended game two with a kill.

Methvin had nine kills in the match and Hodges had eight. Lewis added four, and Hofkamp and Barnes each had two. Schroeder had 12 digs in the contest and Lewis had 11. Hodges had eight, and Hofkamp and Burnett each had five. Blocks were made by Barnes, Schroeder and Hodges. Methvin scored four aces, Burnett added three, and Lewis and Ensminger each had one. Hofkamp had 17 assists in the match.
