PBHS volleyball team wins one at league tournament

A busy week of volleyball produced one win for the Lady Warriors. Tuesday, the squad competed at home and was defeated by Marion 25-20 and 25-19, and Berean Academy 25-16, 20-25, and 25-20.

Saturday, PBHS traveled to Hope for the Wheat State League Tournament. They lost to Solomon 25-19 and 25-22, came back to defeat Elyria Christian 25-11 and 25-11, but came up short against Goessel 18-25 and 9-25.

Marion

Marion took the early lead in game one. Kaycy Gonzalez and Christa Elliott recorded early kills, but PBHS trailed 4-6. Cierra Foth had an ace and Katy Benson added a block. Brianna Larsen came up with a kill but the Lady Warriors were still down 12-15. Larsen added 3 more kills and Gonzalez got on the board with a kill and an ace to make the score 20-22. Marion added the last 3 points in the game for the win.

Gonzalez had a kill that gave the Lady Warriors the 2-1 edge in the second game. Alysssa Brooks added 2 kills and PBHS led 7-4. Gonzalez followed with an ace and Alex Lewis earned a kill. Jordan Gibson and Benson added kills and the Lady Warriors had the 12-9 lead. Marion rallied and closed the gap at 13-13. Larsen had 2 kills late in the match but Marion came out on top. PBHS lost 25-18.

Berean

Larsen recorded the first kill for the PBHS squad. Gibson had a kill at 5-6 and Brooks added an ace. PBHS led 11-8, but Berean came back to take the lead. Larsen had two more kills and Benson and Elliott teamed up for a block. Gonzalez got a kill but PBHS trailed 15-17. The Lady Warriors lost 25-16.

Larsen gave the PBHS squad the 2-1 edge with a kill in the second game. The teams were even but Berean took a slight advantage at 9-14. Larsen and Gonzalez each added kills and Benson scored an ace, and the Lady Warriors were down 12-14. PBHS rallied and Gonzalez and Benson combined for 3 kills. Alex Lewis finished the game with a kill and the win 25-20.

Game three opened with a kill from Elliott. Benson kept the score even at 4-4 with a kill. Gonzalez took the lead 5-4 with a kill and PBHS led 8-7 before a Berean rally melted the PBHS lead. Gibson had a kill and PBHS traded the lead several times with scores from Larsen, Elliott and Gonzalez. Berean pulled away late in the game. PBHS lost 25-20.

Solomon

PBHS jumped out to a 6-3 lead. Kills from Benson and Gibson kept the Lady Warriors on top 9-5. Solomon rallied and took the lead 11-13. Larsen and Benson got a block, as did Elliott, but PBHS trailed 13-17. The Lady Warriors got within two on a kill from Benson at 16-18, but the Lady Warriors lost 19-25.

Elliott scored first for PBHS in the second game. Gonzalez and Brooks recorded kills and the Lady Warriors were up 4-2. PBHS remained in control at 17-13 with points from Brooks, Gibson, Larsen, Gonzalez and Foth. Solomon came back to take the lead, and PBHS fell 22-25.

Elyria Christian

A Benson ace gave the squad the 2-0 edge to begin. Elliott and Gonzalez earned kills. Rylie McDowell scored an ace and PBHS led 6-1. Foth added an ace, followed by Brooks and Benson. The Lady Warriors led 16-6. McDowell scored two more aces and Gonzalez got 2 more kills for a 20-8 margin. Lewis added a kill and Gibson finished the game 25-11with a kill.

Gonzalez had two kills early to help with the 6-2 PBHS lead. Foth scored three aces and Gonzalez added 2 kills and an ace. Gibson and Lewis also had kills and PBHS led 16-3. Elyria had a small run, but Benson finished the game 25-11 with a kill.

Goessel

Elliott got on the board first 1-0 in game one. That lead quickly vanished and despite kills from Elliott, Brooks, Andrea Garcia, Larsen, and Gibson, PBHS could not edge the Bluebirds. PBHS lost 25-19.

Game two was all Goessel. Gonzalez, Larsen and Elliot each recorded kills but the Lady Warriors lost 25-9.
