PBHS volleyball team is runner-up

The Peabody-Burns High School volleyball team got off to a quick start this past week with a home pre-season tournament.

The Lady Warriors were the runners-up in the field of six teams.

Burrton won the round-robin tourney with a perfect 5-0 record.

PBHS came in next with a 4-1 record, beaten only by Burrton.

Burlingame and Caldwell were next in the standings, each with a record of 2-3, and Central-Burden and Hartford each finished the day at 1-4.

The PBHS squad will have a busy time this week after a Tuesday match at Inman and a tournament Saturday at Solomon.

PBHS got into the first game of the Caldwell match with a kill by Michaela Methvin to put the Lady Warriors up 12-11.

A kill by Julie Wedel and two aces by Kaitlyn Preheim gave the PBHS squad the 15-12 edge.

Caldwell came back to tie the game at 17. The score remained tight, but kills by Felecia Pohlman and Methvin, and an ace by Savage finished game one, 25-22.

Game two was all PBHS with a final score of 25-9 for the game and match victory.

PBHS jumped out to a 6-2 lead in game one against Hartford. Errors in the receiving game let Hartford back in, but the PBHS squad squeaked past the opposition, 26-24.

Game two was easier with good serving from Wedel, Preheim, and Pohlman.

The Lady Warriors took the game 25-15 and also won match two.

Behind the serving of Bayleigh Clark and Pohlman, the PBHS squad was able to build a 14-11 lead against Central-Burden in game one.

Central-Burden came back to challenge the Lady Warriors, but PBHS came out on top 25-23 in game one.

The Lady Warriors took the lead 11-9 in game two. Embry Hodges had a big kill at 19, and the Lady Warriors rolled to a game-two victory, 25-16 and also a match three win.

The Lady Warriors were down by as many as seven in the first game against Burrton, but came back to within two at 20-18 on a Julie Wedel kill.

PBHS lost game one by four, 25-21.

The Lady Warriors dug a big hole in game two, playing from behind by as many as eight points. Steady play and a kill by Danielle Savage put the game even at 19.

The Lady Warriors took the lead 23-22, but Burton capitalized on PBHS mistakes to defeat the Lady Warriors. The Lady Warriors lost the game 26-24, and lost match four.

Burlingame went out to a 6-1 lead early in game one. PBHS could not recover and lost by 10, 25-15.

The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 16-5 lead behind good serving from Pohlman. Wedel took over to serve well and PBHS cruised to a game two victory, 25-8.

Game three was all Lady Warriors until Burlingame went on a run to pull within one at 19-18. A kill by Wedel finished the tight game 26-24 and PBHS won match five in three games.
