PBHS volleyball picks up 2 wins

The Peabody-Burns High School volleyball team finished third in Wheat State League play with two match victories on Sept. 18 at Elyria Christian. The team downed Solomon, 25-15 and 25-21, and defeated Elyria, 25-22 and 25-16. The team finished 6-2 in league standings behind 8-0 Goessel and 7-1 Centre and will next host Dig Pink Night at home.

Solomon

McKenzie Ensminger opened game one with two aces in the first three points. Kaycy Gonzalez added two kills, and PBHS led 5-0. Brandee Burnett and Cierra Foth each added aces, and Rayna Barnes and Gonzalez added kills. The Lady Warriors took game one, 25-15.

Barnes earned the first two points for the PBHS squad, but the Lady Warriors trailed early 2-4. A Paige Lewis kill and two aces from Burnett gave the team the 5-4 lead. Solomon came back to take the lead but kills from Brianna Larsen, Lewis, Foth and Barnes kept the game close but PBHS trailed, 16-19. Jordan Gibson and Foth combined for three aces that gave the PBHS squad the 23-21 lead. Lewis ended the game with a kill, 25-21.

Elyria

Burnett opened game one with a kill. Barnes and Katy Benson got on the scoreboard with points and Larsen scored three with a tip and two kills. PBHS took the game one win, 25-22.

Benson recorded a tip kill for the early 3-2 lead. Lewis and Barnes each had kills in the contest. Burnett finished the game with two of the three final points. PBHS won, 25-16.
