The Peabody-Burns High School girls’ basketball team competed against White City at home Jan. 10 and traveled to Wakefield on Friday.
The squad was defeated by the Huskies, 46-26, and they also lost to the Bombers, 28-19. Up next is a tournament appearance at Centre. First-round action started Tuesday against White City.
White City
White City took the early first quarter advantage with a 17- point explosion that included five 3-point baskets. The Lady Warriors ended the period with 9. Rayna Barnes had 7 points and Kaycy Gonzalez had 2.
Neither offense generated much in the second quarter. White City added 6 and PBHS added 4, with two baskets from McKenzie Ensminger. PBHS trailed by 10 at halftime, 23-13.
Third quarter scoring opened with an 8 point run by White City. Ensminger scored a Lady Warrior 2 with four minutes left in the period. Brandee Burnett followed quickly with another 2, but White City had the 35-17 edge at the end of the quarter.
Tori Schroeder opened the fourth quarter with a basket and Sarah Hofkamp got on the board with a free throw. White City added a 2, but Hofkamp answered with a 2. Brandee Burnett added one more 2 in the contest. White City defeated the PBHS squad, 46-26.
Ensminger led the scoring with 8 points. Barnes had 7 points and 5 rebounds. Burnett had 3 steals and Gonzalez had 3 assists.

Wakefield
Identical first quarter scoring made the game all even 8-8 at the buzzer. Burnett led with 4. Schroeder and Barnes each scored a basket.
Two free throws from Wakefield gave the Bombers 10 at halftime. PBHS offense generated one basket from Ensminger. The contest was even at 10 at the half.
Wakefield offense outscored the Lady Warriors, 8-5, in the third quarter. Burnett had 4. Schroeder added a free throw. The Bombers had the slight edge, 18-15, at the end of the period.
PBHS offense faltered in fourth quarter with two baskets from Burnett. The Bombers added 10 points. PBHS was defeated by Wakefield, 28-19.
Burnett led the team with 12 points. Ensminger had 6 rebounds. Hofkamp and Burnett each had 5.
