PBHS girls drop first game

The 2012-13 Peabody-Burns High School girls’ basketball season opened Friday at Chase County. PBHS lost to the Bulldogs, 43-20. The team will participate next in the Marion Classic Tournament. Games began Tuesday and will continue Thursday and Saturday in Marion.

Paige Lewis scored 4 points for the Warriors in the first quarter. Chase County put in five 2-point baskets and two free throws. PBHS trailed 12-4 at the end of the period.

The Bulldogs matched their first quarter total with 12 in the second frame. PBHS scored 5 points. Rylie McDowell and Rayna Barnes each had a basket. Lewis added a free throw. The difference at halftime favored Chase County, 24-9.

McDowell and Barnes teamed up for 4 points in the third. The Bulldogs added 15 and led, 39-13.

Lewis and Shelby Elliott each added a basket in the final period. Brianna Larsen hit two free throws and Brandee Burnett added 1 point. The Bulldogs topped of their score with 4. PBHS was defeated, 43-20.

Lewis led the offense with 7 points. Barnes and McDowell each had 4. Larsen and Elliott had 2 each and Burnett finished the contest with 1.
