The Peabody-Burns High School boys’ basketball team opened the season Friday at Chase County. They were defeated by the Bulldogs, 45-23. Up next for the Warriors is the Marion Classic at Marion.
Scoring was slow for both offenses in the first quarter. PBHS scored seven but Chase County came up with nine. The Warriors trailed by two at the end of the period, 9-7. Matt Hiebert led the team scoring with a 3-point basket. Derek Price and Storm Pickens each had a 2-point basket.
PBHS was outscored, 9 to 4, in the second period. Austin Savage and Pickens both added two points to the Warrior total. PBHS was down seven at the half, 18-11.
Scoring continued to be a problem for the Warriors after the half. PBHS had four points in the third quarter — three from Brody Kyle and a free throw from Jacob Gillet. Chase County added 15 and led, 33-15, at the end of the third period.
The Warriors scored eight in the fourth but the Bulldogs dumped in 12. Gillet and Price each had three for PBHS and Kyle added two. Chase County defeated the Warriors, 45-23.
