PBHS boys defeat Wakefield

On Jan. 8, the Peabody-Burns boys basketball team traveled to White City and were defeated, 54-43. Friday the squad defeated Wakefield at home, 63-41. The team also went to Centre for the Cougar Classic.

White City

PBHS trailed throughout the first half at White City. At the break, White City led 25-19.

Christian Gard led the team with 11 points. Hunter Pickens had three points and Braxton Kyle added two.

The Warriors held White City to six points in the third quarter. The PBHS offense rallied to take a one-point lead, 32-31, at the quarter buzzer. Kyle had six points in the quarter. Austin Savage added a 3-pointer. Gard and Seth Topham each had a basket.

A 23-point assault from White City was too much in the fourth quarter. The Warriors scored 11 points scored in the quarter. Savage and Kyle each added five points in the final period. Tommy Morris had a free throw.

Three Warriors ended the night with double digit scoring — Gard had 13 and Kyle and Savage each had 12.

Wakefield

Six PBHS Warriors got on the board in the first quarter to lead Wakefield, 16-10, at the buzzer. Kyle led with four points. Topham and Pickens each added three points. Gard, Morris, and Savage each scored two points.

PBHS remained in control in the second quarter. Morris, Pickens, and Garret Schroeder each recorded four points. Gard added a basket. Wakefield added nine points. PBHS led, 30-19, at halftime.

Both offenses had a good third quarter, but PBHS edged Wakefield, 20-15, in the period. Savage, Gard, and Topham each had four points. Morris, Kyle, Pickens, and Schroeder each had two points.

The Warriors added 13 points in the final quarter. Gard led the fourth with seven points. Kyle had four points and Schroeder added two points. PBHS held its opponent to seven points.
