Parolee charged with stealing lottery tickets
Staff writer
A Marion man still on parole from a 2016 sentence for aggravated indecent liberties with a child was formally charged Dec. 6 with stealing lottery tickets when he worked at Marion’s Ampride store and collecting $717 in “winnings” from the stolen tickets.
According to a complaint filed against Dylan J. Cochran, 26, he stole 33 lottery tickets and falsified computer records Sept. 18 to make it appear he had purchased them. He then collected $717 in “winnings.”
Unlawful computer acts for the purpose of theft is a felony. The theft charge for allegedly cashing in on the tickets, is a misdemeanor.
If convicted, state sentencing guidelines suggest anywhere from probation to 28 months in prison, depending on Cochran’s full criminal history.
Cochran was an evening employee of the store at 1225 E. Main St.
According to a manager, Cochran was fired the day the theft was discovered.
