An unruly Galva man who allegedly threatened to “shoot up” the VFW early Saturday kicked a Marion officer and two sheriff’s deputies as they struggled to get him into a squad car after his arrest.

Police were called to a 1:30 a.m. disturbance at the VFW in which Zachary S. Dvorak, 24, allegedly threatened employee Ashely N. Welch, 25, Marion.

Officer Aaron Slater met with witnesses and arrested Dvorak, who put up so much resistance Slater called for assistance from deputies who also had responded to the call. Dvorak allegedly kicked Slater and deputies Joel Womochil and Matt Regier multiple times as they tried to get him into three different squad cars.

“It took about 15 minutes to get him in a car,” police chief Jeffrey Clinton said.

The officers were not injured.

After Dvorak’s arrest, Regier radioed jailers to tell them to “have a restraint chair ready.”

Dvorak was booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated criminal threat, interference with law enforcement, battery of a law enforcement officer, and a McPherson municipal court warrant for failure to appear.

He was released Sunday from Marion County Jail on $11,000 in surety bonds.
