Domestic battery

A second altercation in 10 days between a brother and his sister at a rural Lehigh farmhouse again has resulted in the jailing of the 18-year-old sister — her third jailing since Feb. 25 on suspicion of domestic battery.

This time, her 21-year-old brother also was jailed on suspicion of the same crime.

Siblings Jason R. Latham, 21, and Johannah R. Latham, 18, both sustained injuries described as minor in their latest altercation, at 1:11 a.m. July 4 at their home near 240th and Diamond Rds.

Their mother, Lois A. Latham, 58, of the same address, also was listed as a victim but with no apparent injuries. The incident was reported, according to court documents, by the siblings’ aunt.

Johannah was being held in lieu of $5,000 bond pending a court date Tuesday. Jason was released Thursday on his own recognizance, promising to pay $1,000 should he fail to appear in court.

According to monitored transmissions, a Hillsboro police officer assisted a sheriff’s deputy in investigating the latest incident.

A probable cause affidavit filed in the case indicates that the latest dispute involved a disagreement over whether to let Johannah’s dog out of a kennel. She allegedly scratched Jason’s leg when he tried to block the kennel’s door.

When their mother attempted to stop Jason from calling police, he allegedly pushed her onto a bed and pushed Johanna to the floor, punching her several times and creating a cut over her eye. He also allegedly pushed his mother a second time when she attempted to intervene.

The May 24 incident also occurred at their farmhouse. According to a probable cause affidavit filed in that case, Jordan objected to Johannah playfully poking him in the side. A quarrel ensued, with Johannah allegedly hitting him and pulling his hair. She later allegedly stomped on his feet after he refused to let her use a WiFi hot spot from his cell phone.

The Feb. 25 incident, also involving the brother, occurred at a rental home in the 100 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro. In that incident, police stated, Johannah allegedly threw items at Jason after a dispute over a spilled drink and Internet service being cut off.

Criminal damage to property

A 38-year-old Hillsboro man was arrested early Sunday after his 11-year-old daughter telephoned dispatchers at 12:26 a.m. to report that her parents were quarrelling, according to monitored transmissions.

The father, Juan L. Leredo-Santana, had been drinking at the family’s home in the 200 block of S. Jefferson St. before the quarrel began, according to an offense report.

The father grabbed a cell phone from the mother’s hand and smashed the phone on the floor, Hillsboro police said.

He was booked into Marion County Jail on suspicion of criminal damage to property. He was released 13½ hours later after posting a $2,500 bond.

The phone was destroyed, police said.
