OFFENSES
REPORTED
These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:
SHERIFF
Domestic battery
No injury was reported after a sister allegedly struck her brother at 9:20 p.m. June 24 in the dining room of their grandmother’s farmhouse near Lehigh.
Johannah R. Latham, 18, Lehigh, was arrested at a neighboring farmhouse a little more than an hour after the incident.
Suspected of domestic battery, she was jailed for five days before being released after posting a $1,000 bond. It was her second arrest in five months on suspicion of domestic battery.
The victim was identified in an offense report as Jason Latham, whose age was redacted by the sheriff’s department from the open public record.
According to monitored transmissions, Jason recently had moved in with his grandmother at a farmhouse near 240th and Diamond Rd., where the incident reportedly occurred.
Sheriff’s deputies asked Hillsboro police to contact the victim’s and suspect’s mother, who apparently had witnessed the altercation before leaving for a convenience store in Hillsboro. She apparently returned to the farmhouse before Hillsboro police could locate her.
Theft
Two white wrought-iron chairs valued at $50 were reported stolen between 4 p.m. June 24 and 3 a.m. June 25 from Mr. Peabody’s Barbershop, 106 E. 2nd St., Peabody.
The owner was identified as Shawn M. Willson of Halstead. His age along with all information about a reported witness to the crime was redacted by the sheriff’s department from an open public record of the incident.
According to monitored transmissions, a deputy driving through Peabody after dealing with another situation was flagged down at 7:47 a.m. to report the theft.
Domestic battery
A Peabody woman suffered apparently minor injuries when struck, allegedly by her intoxicated city councilman husband, between 8:45 and 10:40 p.m. June 25 at their residence and place of business in the 100 block of W. 2nd St. in Peabody.
The victim was identified as Rachael J. Gfeller, whose age was redacted from an open public record of the incident by the sheriff’s office.
The suspect, not named in the released version of the record, was identified only as her husband. According to transmissions, the woman had left their residence and reported the incident from a rural home south of Peabody.
She and her husband Jay, 38, a year older than she, operate a massage therapy business at the downtown building that also appears to be their home.
No arrests appear to have been made. The matter was referred to the county attorney’s office and, for unspecified reasons, to Marion County District Court.
Theft
A riding lawn mower valued at $3,676 was reported stolen between June 10 and 4:08 p.m. June 24 for a residence in the 200 block of S. Lombard St. in Lincolnville.
The residence and lawnmower are owned by Diane L. Smith of Greenwood, Louisiana.
