REPORTED

These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

HILLSBORO

Theft

Three chainsaws, together valued at $2,600, were reported stolen between 1 p.m. March 8 and 9 a.m. March 22 from the 100 block of W. 2nd St.

Christopher R. Brewer, 34, Marion, reported the theft.

An offense report does not indicate where the saws had been stored other than to say that they were in the street.

MARION

Possession of drugs, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia

Half a gram of crystal meth — enough methamphetamine for one to five doses, according to federal drug agencies — was recovered along with an array of alleged drug paraphernalia in a drug raid March 21 at 502 N. Cedar St.

Two people — Brenda S. Phillips, 64, and Cody R. Harrison, 38 — were arrested after police armed with a warrant conducted a search of the premises.

Phillips was released from jail two days later on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond. Harrison remained in jail Tuesday in lieu of a $10,000 surety bond.

Seized in addition to crystal meth were four spoons, two glass smoking pipes (one broken), a cut straw, a red grinder, two other pipes with a container, a mirror, and a plastic bag with spoon and metal cap, all with drug residue on them, according to an offense report.

Also seized were a gold-and-green grinder, two marble pipes, three cell phones, a green grinder, another broken pipe, and a W-2 tax form and a bill for one of the residents of the house.

Domestic battery

A 24-year-old woman was struck in the face, allegedly by her boyfriend, during a domestic disturbance at her rental home in the 300 block of S. Cedar St.

The disturbance, which occurred at an unspecified time, was not reported until shortly before noon Thursday.

Police searched for a suspect, whom they identified as Tyler A. Craft, 27, Marion, but could not find him and are asking for an arrest warrant to be issued.

Battery, domestic battery, and criminal damage to property

Three days after a drug raid at 502 N. Cedar St., police returned at 4:06 p.m. Thursday to respond to a report of a fight in progress.

Michael B. Nelson, 21, Marion, was arrested after police say he knocked one woman to the ground, pushed another out a door, and caused damage estimated at $50 to a bedroom door and $75 to a glass nightstand.

Victims were identified as homeowner and roommate Brenda S. Phillips, 64, who had just been released from jail after the drug raid, and a 43-year-old acquaintance, Sarah Smith of an undisclosed Marion address.

Officer Aaron Slater’s report indicated that drug use was suspected of being a contributing factor, but no drug charges were filed.

The house in question is a two-bedroom bungalow with a total of four rooms occupying 880 square feet.

Taxes on the property for 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 have not been paid, according to Marion County’s online property records.

Possession of drugs

A plastic bag containing 1.1 grams of methamphetamine — enough for nearly a dozen “hits,” according to federal drug agencies — was found in the prisoner compartment of police chief Clinton Jeffrey’s squad car after he took to jail a driver he had stopped because of outstanding warrants.

Jeffrey stopped the vehicle driven by Seth M. Daniels, 30, Marion, at 3:35 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of Walnut St. after recognizing that Daniels was wanted for on domestic violence and drug possession warrants in a previous, unspecified case.

Although listing his current address as Marion, Daniels has a history of 10 felony, two misdemeanor, and five traffic cases in Anderson, Bourbon, Linn, and Miami Counties.

The warrant charges plus an additional, unexplained charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer appears on Daniels’ booking record. He remained in county jail Tuesday in lieu of $10,000 surety bond.
