HILLSBORO

Burglary, criminal damage

More than 6,300 pills, all of them opioids or stimulants, were stolen at 6:53 p.m. Saturday when a burglar broke a front door window at Hillsboro Hometown Pharmacy, 507 N. Ash St., and spent eight minutes grabbing more than $6,600 of prescription drugs with a street value many times that amount.

An alarm system failed to function, police said, but surveillance video established the time of the crime and identified the burglar’s vehicle as a black Chevrolet Traverse.

The case remains under investigation.

Damage to the pharmacy’s door was estimated at $2,000.

Underage alcohol possession
Transporting an open container

Ashley Newell, 19, Wellsville, was accused of underage possession of alcohol, transporting open containers of alcohol, and speeding after a traffic stop at 5:55 p.m. Saturday on US-56 near Cedar St.
