Novak misses vote
on county code of conduct

Staff writer

County commissioner Dianne Novak unexpectedly arrived late and missed a portion of Tuesday’s county commission meeting when the four other commissioners signed a new code of conduct.

County clerk Tina Spencer said the new code, similar to one already in force, was needed to receive a previously announced Community Development Block Grant to help businesses and food banks.

One provision says county officials will not engage in transactions or business in which they have financial or personal interests incompatible with their duties in the public interest. That provision specifies that “a personal interest” includes any interest arising from blood or marriage relationships.

A conflict of interest clause also specifies that officials are not to disclose confidential information concerning affairs of the county.

Novak arrived at the commission meeting after administrative business, including putting signatures on the code of conduct.
