No one files for District 1 commission seat
The District 1 county commission seat, which includes Hillsboro, Durham, and Lehigh, will feature a blank line on ballots on Aug. 5.
County Clerk Tina Spencer said no one inquired about the position or filed by the noon deadline Monday.
The election will now become a write in with whoever receiving the most votes in August being placed on the ballot in November.
“For both the general election and primary there will be a chance for residents to write in a candidate,” Spencer said.
Spencer said this is the first time she’s experienced an open position like this and was double checking on election procedure for these types of instances.
District 1 County Commissioner Roger Fleming said Thursday he did not plan to file for re-election.
“I’ve learned a lot but because of personal things in my life I feel like someone else might be a better fit for the position,” he said. “At this time running is not in my best interest.”
Other positions up for election on Aug. 5 all township clerks and precinct committee persons.
