Teacher wish lists provide gift ideas,
expand classroom supplies

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again.
As a way to give back to Marion Elementary School’s teachers, USD 408’s website posted wish lists from them Monday that contained books, snacks, and supplies they would like to have in their classrooms.
“They always get the usual baked goods or stuff like that,” principal Justin Wasmuth said. “Instead of just getting the same old same old, they can get stuff they’ll use in a classroom.”
This is the fifth year that the school has promoted wish lists from the teachers for parents to buy from.
“It’s just giving parents an idea of what teachers may want,” Wasmuth said.
Some items are specific brands of pens, whiteboard markers, or sticky notes that the school doesn’t usually supply. Others items are for themed parties in the future: Kindergarten teacher Jessica Ensley would like to have a glow-in-the-dark party and has listed black lights and glowing toys on her list.
“The teachers think of things in our classroom that we use on a regular basis or that we run out of over the school year,” third grade teacher Shannon Cooper said. “A lot of people don’t realize how expensive things are for the teacher.”
The elementary school also took a few hours Tuesday for a schoolwide party, letting students visit Santa and eat Christmas cookies while teachers got a few hours to themselves.
