Newly elected member resigns before 1st board meeting

Staff writer

Before the first school board meeting of the year, newly elected board member Alicia Morse resigned.

Morse, who recently took a new job, determined she would be unable to meet her responsibilities of being at meetings one Monday a month, Superintendent Ron Traxson said.

The board then discussed the possibility of an appointment, which would only last until the next school board election. Elections were moved by the state to be held in November instead of spring.

Selections for this would have to be made in an open meeting along with the interview process and cannot be filled until 15 days after publication.

The board voted and passed to have an advertisement placed in the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin about the open position. The position will be voted on at the Aug. 10 meeting.

The board also voted and passed Julia Ensminger president and Terry Eberhard vice president. It discussed its main priorities for the capital outlay plan, which included fixing roofs, security and phone systems for the schools, and new playground equipment.
