New county appraiser signs contract for $30,000

Staff writer

A contract signed with new county appraiser Carl Miller, hired Oct. 12, gives him a $30,000 annual salary through June 30.

Miller, who has been an appraiser 40 years, will work part time for Marion County. He will continue to serve as Stafford County and Ellsworth County appraiser as well as Marion County appraiser.

He will be in Marion at least every other Monday, and working remotely the rest of the time.

Former county appraiser Lisa Berg was paid $60,132 per year as full-time appraiser.

Under state law, county appraisers serve an annual term running July 1 through June 30, then are either renewed or replaced.

Nikki Reid, a 10-year employee in the appraiser’s office, has been promoted to assistant appraiser and will train for the possibility of taking over the appraiser’s duties in July. She is paid $46,524 a year.

Reid served as interim appraiser after former appraiser Berg resigned at the end of August
