Naomi Fast

Naomi (Brubaker) Fast, 94, former Goessel resident, died Friday. She was born Jan. 16, 1921 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Jacob and Barbara Brubaker.

A memorial service was Tuesday at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

She was a graduate of Goshen College in Indiana. She served as a dietitian with Civilian Public Service in California. After she married Menno Fast on Aug. 20, 1949, she taught home economics at Hesston College. She was actively involved with international students while living in Lexington, Kentucky, and Lincoln, Nebraska.

She and her husband retired to Goessel in 1981. In 2001, they moved to Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Robert Lowell; sister, Barbara Sommer; and brothers Clarence Brubaker and John Brubaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Everingham of Wichita and Elisabeth Beels of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one son, John Fast of Goessel; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Fund or Mennonite Central Committee for Nepal Earthquake Relief, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 107 S. Lancaster St., Hesston KS 67062.
