Nanas and papas will rock grade school

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns Elementary students will be hosts to grandparents Sept. 22 for the annual Grandparents Day lunch and special activities.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will invite their grandparents to join them for part of their school day. Students whose grandparents are unable to attend may adopt a grandparent or two for the event.

Likewise, members of the Peabody and Burns communities who live far from their own grandchildren, but would like to be a part of Grandparents Day, may contact the school office and sign up to be an adopted grandparent.

“This has always been a fun event for everyone involved,” said PBES receptionist Juanita Richstatter. “We have children who would love to adopt a grandparent for a day and the ‘grandparents’ get a kick out of it too.”

Reservations are needed by Thursday so that enough food can be prepared. The meal costs $4 and reservations can be made by calling (620) 983-2188.

Each class will also share an activity with the grandparents.

Pre-kindergarten classes will not share a meal, but there will be an activity with the grandparents. The morning group will have an activity from 10:15 to 10:50 a.m. and the afternoon group will have theirs from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.

Kindergarten and first grade students and grandparents will eat from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and participate in their activity from 11:30 to 11:55 a.m.

Students in second and third grades will eat from 11:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. and their activity period will be from 12:10 to 12:35 p.m.

Fourth and fifth graders will have their activity first, from 11:55 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. followed by lunch from 12:20 to 12:50 p.m.
