HOPE IN THE HEARTLAND:   Mother's Day is coming

Gracepoint Church, Peabody

Okay everyone, Mother’s Day is this Sunday. Are your cards, flowers, and gifts ready to be hand-delivered or mailed? And, yes, an email sent at 11:59 p.m. on Mother’s Day is still frowned upon by most mothers.

Make no mistake about it, by the time you read this article you have officially entered crunch time. Don’t panic — it’s not like your mom expects you to make a quilt or hand-carve a life-sized marble statue of her over the next few days. So what does she expect? What “gift” is she hoping for?

She’s moved by something that tells her she is remembered and appreciated. It may be flowers, a card, some candy, a nice meal (one she didn’t have to cook herself) or something as personal as a homemade card or popsicle stick picture frame that Junior painted and sprinkled glitter on (which she’ll keep forever and won’t take a million bucks for). And what mother can resist a picture of her children (or grandchildren) doing cute stuff?

God tells us to honor our fathers and mothers. Does your mom know that you honor and appreciate her?
